The Danceathon
Alice Nicotra
To start with, we did some Bollywood dancing. This was very fun as the moves were simple but interesting. For one of the moves, you had to join your fourth and fifth fingers together with the thumb so it makes a deer shape. It showed how Bollywood dancing uses hand movements and gestures to represent animals and help tell a story about the animal.
The next style was Hip Hop. This was also very fun because we had to find a pair to do the dance with. We as a pair had to do step to step. It looked very cool and old-fashioned.
The third one was Israeli Folk Dancing. Mrs. Kingston led this part. It was very simple as all we had to do was walk around in a circle with one hand on the shoulder of the person in front and the other hand on your shoulder. After we walked in a circle we clapped four times, then we swayed our arms and went in and out, a bit like the Hokey Cokey.
Next we did a mix of the Brazilian Capoeira and the African dancing. We started off acting as if we were about to be attacked so we had to defend ourselves. As the music got faster, we moved into the African dancing. The first move was like we were plunging through a ditch – it was great fun.
I would like to thank Mrs Buczman, who taught us most of the dances, and Mrs Kingston, who also led a routine. Thank you as well to all the students who took part, the teachers who attended, and especially the Library staff for organising the event so brilliantly. Thank you!
