We are very excited to announce that one of our former-students, Sussie Anie, released her debut novel in 2022!
With so many alumni, it is a bit of a challenge to keep in touch with everyone (although, we do try!). So it was thrilling to receive the following email from Sussie, not only to let us know about her success, but also to thank the teachers that helped her on her way.
Good morning,
I hope this finds you well. I’m a former student, who left in 2012, emailing to share some good news and say thank you.
Last year I published my debut novel, To Fill A Yellow House. I could not have written it without the support and encouragement of teachers during my time at East Barnet, especially Miss Parfitt, Mr Christou, Miss Carnegie, Mr David, Mr White and Mr Vincent. I’m particularly thankful for the opportunity to complete the Extended Project Qualification, which allowed me to take my passion for creative writing more seriously. I will be eternally grateful for spaces the school and staff opened for creative expression – thank you!
I’ll be visiting libraries and universities soon and it would be a pleasure to return to where my journey began – for a talk or a reading/enrichment activity.
Once again – a big thank you to all the faculty members who encouraged me over the years. I hope everyone is keeping well.Best regards,
Sussie
Some of these teachers are still at East Barnet School, so all prospective students have the opportunity to learn from them in the future. We are also still offering the Extended Project to our Sixth Form students, which you can learn more about on our Sixth Form webpage.
This novel is a fantastic read, but don’t just take our word for it, in June 2022 it was reviewed by The Guardian. To Fill a Yellow House is available at all good bookshops.
Congratulations, Sussie! We are so proud of you.
