On 1st May 2024, Miss Pieri attended an event at the House of Lords to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists.
The exclusive guest list included actors, writers, journalists and publishers from around the UK. The venue was inside the parliament building on a veranda which overlooked the River Thames and the London Eye – a lovely afternoon!
Baroness Floella Benjamin was the guest speaker at the event; she gave an inspiring talk about the importance of children reading quality books from a young age. Shaping young minds through the literature we expose our children to is essential in creating neural pathways which are essential to learning – from picture books, to novels, poetry, non fiction and articles – we can change lives through reading. We as adults must foster and encourage a love of reading in our young people so as to positively influence the next generation – building core Literacy skills required for life beyond the classroom.
