On 26th November, 54 Year 8 students went to the Victoria Palace Theatre in central London to watch a performance of the musical Hamilton. This performance was put on especially for schools, and the theatre was full to capacity with schools from all over the southeast region; the anticipation and atmosphere was electric. Needless to say, the show was amazing, and it was lovely to see our students really engaged and giving the performers their full attention as well as ‘dancing’ along in their seats. There was a tub of ice cream or sorbet for everyone during the interval and lots of excited talk about what they had enjoyed so far. At the end of the show there was an eruption of applause from the audience which visibly moved the performers giving them great pleasure. Once the show was over the students were treated to a special talk by cast members and some of the backstage workers about how they put the show on. This included the lighting, music, costume, stage management and ‘front of house’ departments who all spoke about how they did their jobs, and what type of careers were available in the theatre aside from acting. Overall, it was a very enjoyable afternoon, and the students were a credit to EBS especially on the journey home in rush hour.
