This trip was a first for the Social Science Faculty, but it certainly will not be the last. After many years of visiting New York, we decided in the climate of cost-of-living crisis to visit a European City that was more affordable. We chose Brussels because it had sites that we could visit that suited our faculty! Best decision ever! We had a very comfortable trip on the Eurostar, got to Brussels about two hours later. Trying to master the transport links initially proved difficult but we soon got the hang of it. We visited wonderful sites which included the European Parliament, the majestic Atomium and a very quaint chocolate factory where we tasted more chocolate than we wished for! The Sixth form students enjoyed the idea of sightseeing in smaller groups and seeing Brussels during the day and at night-time. The city is wonderful and the square more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. The four days seemed almost too short and when students said can we just stay one more day we knew that they really enjoyed it. Students formed new friendships and for us as teachers it was insightful to see students in such an informal environment. Thank you students, thank you Brussels!
