This December, 16 A-Level Art students enjoyed an inspiring three-day residential trip to Paris, travelling by Eurostar for an unforgettable experience. The visit provided students with invaluable first-hand exposure to Paris’ outstanding galleries and significant artworks.
During the trip, students visited the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin and the Musée de l’Orangerie. These collections offered rich opportunities to study a wide range of artists, from Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters to Rodin’s expressive sculpture and Monet’s iconic Water Lilies. Sketching, photography and detailed note-taking were actively encouraged, allowing students to really engage with the work they encountered.
The students were a credit to the school throughout the visit. Their behaviour was impeccable, both in the galleries and whilst navigating the city, and they demonstrated maturity, enthusiasm and genuine curiosity at every stage of the trip. As a result, the quality of research and critical analysis produced for their coursework has been exceptionally strong, clearly reflecting the value of experiencing artwork in its original context.
The Paris art residential was a great success. It was both academically enriching and culturally rewarding, leaving students inspired, motivated and better equipped to develop their final A-Level projects.
