⛺DofE Training Expedition – A Fantastic Weekend Outdoors!
Over the weekend of 11th – 12th October, Mrs Godly and Miss Brady accompanied 41 students from Year 9 and 10 who were taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award training expedition at Dunstable Downs. We were treated to fantastic weather – not too hot, not too cold, and most importantly, dry! Spirits were high as students set off with their rucksacks, ready to test their skills and teamwork out in the fresh air.
Working in groups of seven, students learned how to pitch tents, cook meals on camping stoves, and navigate using maps and compasses. Each group followed a planned walking route through the Downs, taking turns to lead and keeping track of checkpoints along the way. There were plenty of laughs, a few detours, and lots of teamwork as everyone worked together to stay on track. Alfie in 9B proved to be a fantastic navigator, guiding his team confidently to the checkpoints.
Back at camp, the smell of pasta, noodles and hot chocolate filled the air as groups cooked up their evening meals before settling down in their tents for the night. On Sunday morning, students were up and getting ready by 6.00am! After preparing breakfast, they packed away their tents and kit before setting off for another day of walking – Sami in 9G even managed a full fry-up with sausages and beans, which was very impressive and certainly set him up for the day!
Mrs Godly and I are very proud of all the students and are already looking forward to the qualifying expedition in March!
