On 8 May 2025, East Barnet School commemorated the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day – an historic moment that signalled the end of World War II in Europe. The day served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during the war and the resilience of those who lived through it. At EBS, we see these commemorations as vital opportunities to educate students about our shared history and the enduring values of courage, unity, and hope.
To honour the occasion, the EBS Kitchen transformed lunch service with a special 1940s-themed menu. Students and staff were invited to sample dishes inspired by wartime recipes, including a Lord Woolton Pie, spam fritters, and traditional puddings. The menu reflected the creativity and community spirit of the wartime era, when families made the most of limited ingredients under rationing.
East Barnet School’s 80th anniversary VE Day celebration was not only a tribute to those who served and sacrificed but also a moment for our school community to reflect on the values that continue to shape our world today.
