We were pleased to host a fantastic cohort of ECTs in their first year of induction at EBS. The quality of discussion and engagement around high quality professional development to move from novice to expert teachers was exceptional. The cohort left with a deep understanding of how professional development leads to the formation of increasingly complex and flexible mental models which inform their actions in the classroom. This ultimately drives how children learn to create the greatest impact on the outcomes of their students. The conference provided the time and space for colleagues to develop and reflect on their practice. They were introduced to the instructional coaching cycling and deliberate practice looking at the merits of these as strategies in teacher education and development. This was balanced with a key focus on wellbeing and workload to ensure that the work we do is sustainable.
