On Monday 10th, our Business Studies and Economics students had the valuable opportunity to hear from guest speaker Nick Hunt, who delivered an engaging and insightful talk on careers within the Financial Markets sector.
Nick introduced students to the range of pathways available in this fast-moving industry, breaking down roles across analysis, trading, sales, regulation, and operations. He shared practical advice on how young people can begin preparing for these careers – highlighting the importance of strong numerical skills, commercial awareness, and a genuine interest in global events and economic trends.
A key part of the session explored the difference between wholesale and retail financial markets, giving students a much clearer understanding of how institutions, investors and everyday consumers interact within the financial system. Nick also explained the types of financial products traded across these markets, helping to demystify an area that many students had previously found daunting.
For our A-Level students, the talk couldn’t have been more timely. Economics students will soon be studying Financial Markets as part of their course, and Nick’s explanations provided an excellent foundation for the topics ahead. Likewise, Business Studies students are currently learning about ratio analysis, and Nick demonstrated how key financial ratios are applied in real-world decision-making.
The session left students feeling more informed, motivated and excited about future possibilities within the financial sector. We are incredibly grateful to Nick Hunt for generously sharing his knowledge and experience, and for inspiring our students to think ambitiously about their next steps.
