Our Open Evening was a truly wonderful event, full of energy, warmth, and a real sense of community. The school was buzzing with prospective parents/carers and students, and the atmosphere was one of excitement and pride.
One of the highlights of the night was hearing the incredible feedback from families. Parents/Carers repeatedly told us how impressed they were with our students – not just for their confidence in speaking, but for the genuine warmth and care they showed when guiding visitors on tours. Many commented that it was our students who brought the school to life, showing what it really feels like to be part of East Barnet School.
The speeches from our Year 8 students were particularly moving. They spoke about joining the school and what it felt like to come as the only student from primary or to come with old classmates, and how quickly they found friends through our transition activities such as summer school, and the caring support they received from staff. They shared how their experiences of a school filled with new opportunities – from performing in musicals, to celebrating success through our reward system – has encouraged them to get involved. Their stories reassured parents/carers that children who may feel nervous about starting somewhere new are welcomed, supported, and encouraged to thrive.
The older students shared stories of their academic and personal growth, reminding us that while excellent results matter, what truly sets EBS apart is our focus on kindness, resilience, and community.
As parents/carers toured the school, they saw lessons in action, met staff, and heard first-hand about our wide range of clubs, sports, music, and drama. But what struck them most was the character of our students – their pride in the school, their ability to articulate their experiences, and the way they made everyone feel at home.
The evening was such a success that demand for our Open Morning Tours was overwhelming – all available places were fully booked by 10.30am on Tuesday, just an hour and a half after bookings opened at 9.00am.
The Open Evening was a celebration of everything East Barnet School stands for: strong results, exceptional care, and a community where every child is noticed and nurtured. We are so grateful to our staff and students who made the evening such a success, and to all the families who joined us. We look forward to welcoming many of you into the EBS family in the near future.
