Celebrating World Book Day 2026 at EBS Library
This year, we celebrated World Book Day 2026 in the library with engaging and creative activities that inspired a passion for reading, creativity, and problem-solving.
Exciting Individual Activities
Students were invited to explore new genres and titles by selecting from an exciting range of wrapped Young Adult books. Some of these titles contained a golden ticket, granting the lucky recipients a chance to skip the lunch queue or enjoy a complimentary hot chocolate/chocolate shake from the Sixth Form Café. Additionally, students were encouraged to showcase their creativity by submitting designs for the National Book Voucher competition. Staff and students were also invited to craft imaginative potato book characters, and a desk of free books were enthusiastically selected from.

Creative Writing Workshop
Students from Year 7 – Year 9 were also invited to participate in an engaging creative writing lesson. Inspired by the odd, weird and wonderful, they tackled the challenge of editing texts to enhance impact and crafted mini sagas of up to 100 words. These excellent pieces will be submitted to the Young Writers Stranger Sagas competition, providing students with a chance for publication and the potential to win exciting prizes for themselves and the school.

Time-travel back to a 17th Century Escape Room!
Over three periods Year 8 Lexia students were transported back to the 17th century, immersing themselves in the fascinating world of Dr John Dee, a courtier to Elizabeth I and a renowned mathematician, cartographer, spy, and magus. They worked in teams to solve a series of fiendish puzzles and riddles, ultimately unlocking his famed Shewing Stone and some delightful goodies!
We were immensely proud to see our students so engaged and excited about reading, writing and creativity and would like to extend a big thank you to all who participated and made World Book Day 2026 such a successful and memorable day!
