Maths is one of the best subjects to develop analytical, research and problem-solving skills. Maths supports the study of subjects like science, engineering, IT, economics and business. Studying maths alongside essay based subjects can also help keep your options open. Maths A-Level is a must for degrees in: physics, engineering, actuarial science, economics and, of course, maths (you may also need further maths). It is recommended, sometimes required for computer science, accounting, sciences, medicine/nursing, dentistry, business, finance, architecture, geology, psychology, and even philosophy at university. A-Level maths provides a firm foundation for all scientific, technical, engineering and mathematical careers and a  flying start for many others, the list is endless.

Course Overview

A-Level Mathematics is an exciting and immersive course, offering students a powerful toolkit to tackle complex, real-world challenges and equipping them with the analytical skills needed to excel in various fields. Through topics like calculus, trigonometry, mechanics, and statistics, students develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and learn how to apply them in practical scenarios.

In Pure Mathematics, you will study at greater depths topics such as algebra and trigonometry, while exploring new areas like calculus, exponential and logarithms. These concepts go beyond the basics, revealing the depth and versatility of mathematical thought. This foundational knowledge strengthens your reasoning skills and prepares you for the applied areas of the course: Mechanics and Statistics. In Mechanics, you’ll connect mathematics to the physical world, applying concepts to understand forces, velocity, acceleration, and momentum – critical to fields like engineering and physics. You will learn to dissect real-world scenarios mathematically, preparing you for challenges in technical disciplines. Statistics, on the other hand, introduces the art and science of data, from analysing trends and distributions to applying probability, essential in today’s data-driven environment.

A-Level Mathematics is designed to help you develop problem-solving skills that are highly valued in almost any profession. You will also learn to model real-life situations mathematically, refining your approach as you encounter limitations and nuances in the modelling process.
