Careers

At EBS, careers education is a central part of school life. We provide independent, impartial guidance to help students of all ages explore their strengths and passions, and to plan for their future.

From Years 7 – 9 the focus is on career exploration, and students do this through our online platform Unifrog, which helps to identify skills and career interests. We also work with employers, training providers and local colleges to offer real-world experiences. All students complete work experience from Year 10 and meet with our independent Careers Advisor.

Key Stage 3 Computing

Course Overview

Our Key Stage 3 (KS3) Computing curriculum is designed to develop students’ understanding of computer systems, computational thinking and digital literacy.

Students learn how hardware and software work together within computer systems, exploring how data is represented, stored and transmitted. Through a range of practical and theoretical learning experiences, they develop problem-solving skills by designing, writing and refining programs using both block-based and text-based programming languages. Over the course of KS3, students create a variety of digital artefacts including websites, interactive games, mobile applications and multimedia products, applying creativity alongside technical understanding.

Regular formative assessment enables students to build accuracy, independence and resilience as computational thinkers. The curriculum also places strong emphasis on digital literacy and online safety, ensuring students understand issues such as cyber security, social media use, online gaming and responsible digital behaviour. By the end of KS3, students are confident, capable and responsible users and creators of technology, well prepared for further study in computing and beyond.
