Careers

At EBS, careers education is a central part of school life. We provide independent, impartial guidance to help students of all ages explore their strengths and passions, and to plan for their future.

From Years 7 – 9 the focus is on career exploration, and students do this through our online platform Unifrog, which helps to identify skills and career interests. We also work with employers, training providers and local colleges to offer real-world experiences. All students complete work experience from Year 10 and meet with our independent Careers Advisor.

Course Overview

History at Key Stage 3 (KS3) is not only designed to enthuse students about the past, but to equip them with knowledge and skills that will prepare them for further study at school and beyond.

Our enquiry-led topics are carefully chosen and thoughtfully planned to promote critical thinking and independent enquiry. We aim to challenge misconceptions, build upon students’ curiosity about the past, and develop the tools to become critical historians.

We introduce students to historical methods, such as the source analysis and the creation of historical interpretations, and develop their thinking about historical concepts, such as causation and consequence, change and continuity, and diversity.

The course is broadly chronological. It begins with a case study from the Iron Age and then progresses through the Medieval, Early Modern and Modern periods, ending in the 20th Century. The focus on Britain is balanced by connections and comparisons to other parts of the world, for example Medieval Baghdad and Mali in Year 7; the Banda Islands, Caribbean and India in Year 8; and Germany in Year 9.
