At EBS, careers education is a central part of school life. We provide independent, impartial guidance to help students of all ages explore their strengths and passions, and to plan for their future.
From Years 7 – 9 the focus is on career exploration, and students do this through our online platform Unifrog, which helps to identify skills and career interests. We also work with employers, training providers and local colleges to offer real-world experiences. All students complete work experience from Year 10 and meet with our independent Careers Advisor.
Our Key Stage 3 Physical Education curriculum provides students with the opportunity to develop skills, tactical understanding and game knowledge across a broad range of team and individual activities. Learning is carefully structured in six-lesson blocks, allowing students to build confidence and make sustained progress within each activity.
Teaching is underpinned by three core practical strands: skill execution, tactical awareness, and rules and game knowledge. Students refine techniques with increasing control and accuracy, apply strategies effectively in competitive situations, and demonstrate a clear understanding of rules, positions and gameplay. Alongside physical development, lessons also promote the school values of motivation, growth mindset, hard work, kindness, integrity and respect.
Progress is monitored through regular formative assessment, enabling students to reflect on their performance and identify next steps in their development. As well as a summative assessment at the end of each unit of work on our three core strands. House Sport further enriches the curriculum, providing opportunities to demonstrate and be assessed in performance, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship skills. Understanding how the school values are applied in Physical Education is also assessed, alongside physical attributes, such as cardiovascular endurance, coordination, balance, muscular endurance and speed. In Year 8 and Year 9 students complete a written examination on topics covered in the Health-Related Fitness (HRF) and theory units respectively.
