Careers

At EBS, careers education is a central part of school life. We provide independent, impartial guidance to help students of all ages explore their strengths and passions, and to plan for their future.

In Years 10 and 11, students focus on preparing for life after GCSEs. Using our online platform Unifrog, they explore potential pathways, including Sixth Form, college courses and apprenticeships, and the subjects or qualifications required for different careers. We also provide opportunities to meet employers, training providers and local colleges, giving students real-world insight into the world of work. All students complete Year 10 work experience and meet our independent Careers Advisor to discuss their future plans.

Course Overview

Studying Religious Studies at GCSE is an opportunity to explore beliefs, values, and ethical questions that shape contemporary British society and the wider world.

Students develop a deeper understanding of religion and non-religious worldviews, learning to think critically and empathetically about different perspectives.

The course focuses on Christianity and Islam, examining all aspects of belief, practice, and philosophy. Students explore fundamental questions about the meaning of life, such as “Why am I here?” and “What is truly important?” They also consider moral issues including marriage, euthanasia, prejudice, and discrimination, reflecting on the ways religion influences ethical decision-making. Alongside this, students study how religion contributes to modern life, including its impact on culture, law, literature, and the arts.

Throughout the course, students develop essential analytical, evaluative, and reasoning skills. They learn to interpret sources, compare viewpoints, construct well-reasoned arguments, and communicate their ideas clearly. GCSE Religious Studies provides a strong foundation for further study at A Level and beyond, while also equipping students with transferable skills that are valuable in a wide range of careers, including law, education, social research, and public service.
