Careers

At EBS, careers education is a central part of school life. We provide independent, impartial guidance to help students of all ages explore their strengths and passions, and to plan for their future.

In Years 10 and 11, students focus on preparing for life after GCSEs. Using our online platform Unifrog, they explore potential pathways, including Sixth Form, college courses and apprenticeships, and the subjects or qualifications required for different careers. We also provide opportunities to meet employers, training providers and local colleges, giving students real-world insight into the world of work. All students complete Year 10 work experience and meet our independent Careers Advisor to discuss their future plans.

KS4 GCSE Sociology

Course Overview

Have you ever wondered why people behave the way they do, or how societies maintain order and cope with change?

Studying Sociology at GCSE allows students to explore these questions and understand the forces that shape human life.

The course covers a wide range of fascinating topics, including families, education, crime and deviance, religion, social class, gender and ethnicity, as well as the role of the state and social change. Students examine real-world issues, consider multiple perspectives, and explore how individuals and communities are influenced by the society around them.

Sociology encourages students to develop critical thinking, analytical and evaluative skills. Through discussion, research, and the interpretation of contemporary evidence, students learn to analyse data, evaluate arguments, and form well-reasoned conclusions. The course also fosters curiosity, empathy, and a broader awareness of cultural diversity and social justice.

Beyond GCSE, Sociology provides an excellent foundation for further study at A-Level or university, and supports careers in social research, law, education, psychology, media, public services, and roles within government or community organisations. It is a subject that not only develops academic skills but also helps students understand the world around them in a meaningful way.
