Careers

At EBS, careers education is a central part of school life. We provide independent, impartial guidance to help students of all ages explore their strengths and passions, and to plan for their future.

In Years 10 and 11, students focus on preparing for life after GCSEs. Using our online platform Unifrog, they explore potential pathways, including Sixth Form, college courses and apprenticeships, and the subjects or qualifications required for different careers. We also provide opportunities to meet employers, training providers and local colleges, giving students real-world insight into the world of work. All students complete Year 10 work experience and meet our independent Careers Advisor to discuss their future plans.

Course Overview

Cambridge National in Sport Science (OCR) offers students the opportunity to develop their understanding of the science behind sport and physical activity. The course combines practical application with theoretical knowledge, helping students to explore how the body works, how performance can be improved and how sport impacts health and wellbeing.

Students study a range of engaging topics including reducing the risk of sports injuries, applying principles of training, and understanding the body’s response to exercise. They also develop knowledge of sports nutrition and the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

The course is assessed through a combination of an external exam and internally assessed coursework units. This allows students to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways, including practical tasks, research and written assignments. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to real-life sporting contexts, developing both independence and confidence in their work.

Cambridge National Sport Science places a strong emphasis on transferable skills such as analysis, evaluation, problem-solving and organisation. It provides an excellent foundation for further study at Level 3, including A-Level Physical Education or vocational sport courses, and supports future pathways in areas such as sport, health, fitness and coaching.
